Lecture by independent curator Maija Rudovska

PARSE NOLA curator-in-residence and CEC Artslink Fellow, Maija Rudovska from Riga, Latvia will introduce her practice and share some of her past projects at The Front (4100 St. Claude Avenue) on November 10 at 6pm. Her presentation will be followed by Q & A. She is particularly interested in generating a discussion about identity, belonging, and roots - themes she has been focusing on in her recent projects.
Maija Rudovska
Maija Rudovska is a curator based in Riga, Latvia. Her practice is shaped by independent curation, research, art criticism, and writing. She has been focusing on intermediation and stimulation of relationships and communication between spaces, contexts, and institutions, paying particular attention to in-betweenness, hybridity, and identity. Recently she's been advocating for self-organized, independent practices. Rudovska holds an MA in art history from The Art Academy of Latvia (2009) and has completed postgraduate studies in curating in Curatorlab at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm (2009/2010). She has worked extensively in the Baltic-Nordic region, as well as internationally. She has curated exhibitions and projects at Foundation Ricard (France), Bozar Centre for Fine Arts (Belgium), Kim? Contemporary Art Centre (Latvia), Moderna Museet (Sweden), Contemporary Art Centre (Lithuania), The Living Art Museum (Iceland), Augusta Gallery (Finland), and ARS Project Space (Estonia). In 2018, she launched an alternative education program “The Season of Learning.” Since 2011, she has been running a network platform, Blind Carbon Copy, that initiates and supports exchange, connections and education via network infrastructures and interrelationships.
PARSE NOLA
PARSE NOLA is a nonprofit curatorial and research-based residency and art program in New Orleans, Louisiana that serves as a platform for critical dialogue about contemporary art. PARSE NOLA hosts two to three international curators, writers, and artists annually. During extended stays in the city, residents are encouraged to engage in studio visits with local artists, conduct research in the area, and utilize PARSE NOLA's resources to experiment with the boundaries and possibilities of curatorial and artistic practice.
