ABOUT THE FRONT

The Front is a New Orleans art collective dedicated to making art accessible to all and showcasing the diverse cultures of our neighborhood. We represent voices from various backgrounds, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA, women and gender non-conforming artists, and other boundary-pushing creatives.

Since 2008, The Front has fostered innovative exhibitions, lectures, screenings, performances, and career building programs, always free and open to the public. We support artistic exploration outside of commercial constraints and bureaucratic hurdles, aiming to create a sustainable cultural economy that addresses racial inequities, economic disparities, and accessibility barriers.

We provide equal opportunities for underrepresented artists to exhibit their talent and share their unique perspectives. Last year, our four gallery spaces featured a diverse range of artists, with over 50% of exhibitions highlighting BIPOC and LGBTQIA artists. Our 2023 programming explored themes rooted in Black Southern heritage, Creole perspectives, African ethos, and the Black female experience. Our recent artists also delved into topics such as queer dislocation, emotional trauma, sexual agency, environmental pollution, and erosion of Louisiana wetlands. We also host monthly artist talks to further foster community and understanding.

As a non-profit organization, we rely on the support of individuals to sustain our operations and fulfill our mission. At The Front, creative freedom prevails without limitations or institutional censorship. We encourage unbridled artistic exploration, ensuring artists keep 100% of their sales and exempting guests from any fees.

Our dedicated members contribute their time and efforts to maintain our establishment, and member monthly dues cover essential expenses. However, to continue offering our diverse range of programs, we greatly rely on the generosity of donors and the success of fundraising initiatives like Give Nola Day.

Our valued supporters enable us to sustain our arts programming, provide subsidized memberships for low-income artists, collaborate with other collectives, and offer space and programming opportunities to other organizations in our community. Through the commitment and contributions of our supporters, we aim to make a lasting impact in the New Orleans arts community. Please consider making a difference in your New Orleans art communities by donating to The Front for Give Nola Day 2024.

Showcasing the Impact of Your Donation

We would like to highlight some specific programs that GiveNOLA Day contributions have supported this year. Here are a few examples of how your donation has made a difference:

  • Subsidized Memberships - Membership is subsidized for emerging and underrepresented artists that are part of The Front's two year membership cycle. These memberships aim to provide support and resources to artists who may face barriers to accessing opportunities in the art world.

  • Exhibition Exchanges - Every two year cycle we develop exchanges with other collectives and organizations around the globe. This past year our exhibition exchange was with Plug Gallery in Kansas City. Exhibition exchanges involve costs related to transportation, shipping, insurance, installation, and promotion. These events enhance a cultural exchange and provide opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing among artists and professionals.

  • Cultural Inclusion Initiative - The Cultural Inclusion Initiative is a new program at The Front implemented to promote and expand inclusivity and diversity in New Orleans art communities. This program allocates free exhibition space specifically for underrepresented artists in our communities during our two-year exhibition cycles.

New Projects & Programming

We're also excited to announce our upcoming new programming initiatives. With your support, we can turn these ideas into reality. Join us in making a difference!

  • Studio Space Rental - We are actively seeking support to establish a local art studio rental to pair with the Cultural Inclusion Initiative package for guest artists. Your contribution empowers guest artists to create and grow their work. Benefits include dedicated workspace, collaboration, and access to other valuable resources. Make an impact supporting talented artists!

  • Second Sunday Concert Series - The Second Sunday Concert Series is a newly proposed program that extends our opening weekend programming to attract more visitors and captivate music enthusiasts and art lovers alike. We'll feature a variety of live music performances each month free and open to the public. Fundraising dollars go directly towards compensation for local musicians. Join us in celebrating local music and supporting our community.

Thank you for your support!
Love, The Front
