in the corner of our eye

While grappling with laborious actions of repetition and accumulation my work engages notions of mortality, cycle, and temporality through the poetic gesture. Curiosity is a beginning drive of my practice and deeply affects the production of my work. Through installation, performance, writing and sculpture I collaborate in moments of pause and contemplation. Materially this results in time-intensive rituals of collecting and sorting. Additionally, I am interested in the invitation that poetry--as a conceptual form--gives to the surreal, sublime, minimal, and uncanny.

Originally from Upstate New York, I have lived the last twelve years in Chicago where I obtained a BA in Conflict Transformation and Art (2013). In 2020 I received an MFA from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in visual arts with a graduate minor in dance. My research continues to live at the intersection of art, poetry, dance and critical theory.

As I am filled with questions: I continue to want to cover things in wax, find points of teeter, make leaf dust, recede into wall cocoons, hold gazes, write salt poems, and hammer stones.  I wonder if this is of coping, suave, or mourning. I wonder if this is of distracting, re-rooting, or centering. Always I wonder how and if I should offer this to you.

Carlos Sanchez’s Portfolio

These images are, in my eyes, the best representation of my work; creating immersive cinematic scenes that captivate the viewer. The use of light is specific to each photographer and the possibilities and uses are infinite & my use of light and colors in these is my way of transforming the spaces into their own world existing only in the realm of my other photo sets. When viewing art, we imagine what the creator wants to portray & what I attempt to create with each series is a portal into how I view the world, thank you for witnessing it.

My name is Caleb Jackson and my artist name is Carlos Sanchez. I am a creative, conceptual photographer from Jacksonville, Florida living in New Orleans, LA. I create to feel something and alternately, for my viewers to feel something emotionally with every piece. With each series I create, I aim to bring my subjects or my own concepts to life by expanding on an idea and creating and other-worldly psychedelic experience with colors, lighting, and textures. My greatest joy with creating is working with people's ideas and building a concept with them to bring their dreams into this world for all to see. My goal with creating is showing the world all the wonders that can come from a simple idea.

PRO$PER JONE$
Coping Mechanizms

Coping Mechanizms is a visual representation of the natural healing process over time and space vs. coping through strategies such as substance abuse, self- distractions, self-blame etc. In life, we all experience key moments that can cause a surge of emotions. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, family drama, a failed relationship/heartbreak, rejection, or simply feeling stagnant in life. In this series , each subject offers various perspectives of healing izms as well as coping Izms. In the end, it is our own conscious/unconscious decisions that can either contribute to our growth or cause us to repeat the same toxic patterns that stunt our growth.

Stefan Rene a.k.a PRO$PER JONE$ Is a multi- disciplinary artist born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana (uptown 3rd Ward). He is also the founder of the international artist movement known as “Art Above The Law.”
